2024 had a lot of incredible theatre. Since I did this last year, I have decided to make it a tradition. Here are some reflections! Happy New Year!
SHOW THAT MADE ME LAUGH THE HARDEST
SHOW THAT MADE ME CRY THE MOST
SHOW THAT BLEW MY MIND WIDE OPEN
SHOW WHOSE TRUTH HIT ME THE HARDEST
BEST REIMAGINED CLASSIC
BEST NEW MUSICAL
BEST NEW PLAY
SHOW THAT WAS TREATED MOST UNFAIRLY BY CRITICS
(Op-ed expressing my feelings on aforementioned criticism)
SHOW THAT DIDN’T MAKE IT, BUT DESERVED TO
SHOW MOST SABOTAGED BY MISMARKETING
SHOW THAT SCARED ME THE MOST
LEAST EXPECTED PLOT TWISTS
MOST LOVINGLY PREDICTABLE
STAND OUT SHOW-STOPPING PERFORMANCE
Mandy Gonzalez, Sunset Blvd.
BEST ACTOR, LEAST ACKNOWLEDGMENT
Gabby Beans, Romeo+Juliet and Jonah
Tommy Dorfman, Romeo+Juliet
BEST FEMINIST THEATRE
BEST LGBT THEATRE
BEST STAGE MAGIC
FAVORITE (ROCK) OPERA OF THE YEAR
CAST ALBUM THAT I CANNOT STOP LISTENING TO
SHOW THAT I SINCERELY HOPE GETS ANOTHER SHOT
MOST CREATIVE MISUNDERSTANDING
SHOW I WISH I COULD HAVE WALKED OUT OF
SHOW I’M REALLY SAD I DIDN’T GET TO SEE
The Dead, 1904
King Lear
HONORABLE MENTION SHOWS
There were a couple of spectacular shows I saw this year that didn’t lend themselves to categories that I wanted to celebrate.
